The tour to the Rainbow Mountain by ATV begins with the visitor being picked up from the door of their hotel in the center of Cusco. The pick-up is scheduled for 3.30 in the morning on average. It is recommended to be ready by then.
Then, aboard a tourist transport, the trip is made by minivan to the town of Cusipata. The route takes 2 hours on average. Breakfast includes a variety of breads, jam, butter, scrambled eggs, coffee, infusions, fruits, yogurt and more. The visitor will have almost 1 hour to enjoy the buffet breakfast at the La Montana restaurant.
After breakfast, we will board the tourist transport again for a trip of approximately 1 hour. The route is along a dirt road until arriving at the community of Japura. There, the visitor will receive training and practice from their tour guide. Each visitor will have an individual or double ATV (if they wish to do the route with their partner). The tour includes the appropriate equipment such as helmets, gloves, knee pads, etc.
Once prepared to drive a quad bike, the group will take the route in a row, always with the company and advice of the professional tour guide. The route is through the beautiful landscapes of the Pitumarca Valley, on the route the visitor will appreciate camelids, lagoons and high mountains that precede the Ausangate snow-capped mountain, the highest in Cusco.
The route is approximately 8 kilometers long. Visitors will enjoy the ATV route for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. The roads are safe. The final destination will be the Qosqopata camp, at an altitude of 4,800 meters above sea level. There, tourists will get ready to make the final walk to the 7 Colors Mountain.
The route from the Qosqopata camp to the Rainbow Mountain is less than 2 kilometers. This route is more accessible compared to the classic route to Vinicunca that starts from the Phulawasipata camp (a route of a little more than 3 kilometers). An average visitor can complete this hike in 1 hour or a little more. If the tourist has difficulties completing this route, he or she can do this section on board a linear motorbike driven by one of the locals (this service is not included in the tour and costs approximately 60 soles).
