Itinerary of the Sunrise at Rainbow Mountain tour 1 day – private service

This is the itinerary

The tour to the Mountain of 7 Colors begins with the pick-up of the tourist from the door of their hotel in the city of Cusco at approximately 3:30 in the morning. The departure takes place very early in order to be one of the first visitors to arrive at Vinicunca and, in this way, be able to enjoy the sunrise and get beautiful photographs without the traffic of visitors hours later.
After the private group is picked up by the tour guide, a 2-hour minivan ride is made to the town of Cusipata. There, a stop is made to enjoy a buffet breakfast at the La Montana restaurant, which includes: coffee, breads, jam, butter, yogurt, coca tea (ideal for combating the symptoms of altitude sickness), cereals, fruits, scrambled eggs, juices and more.
After breakfast, the trip continues, this time along ascending dirt roads, until arriving, 1 hour and 30 minutes later, at the Phulawasipata camp. There we get out of the vehicle to get ready for the final walk to Vinicunca. Due to the early morning, it is recommended to do the walk with a jacket, gloves and a hat. Tourists who wish to do so can request to be transported on horseback by one of the local community members (cost of 60 soles not included in the tour).
The hike to Vinicunca is a challenging adventure, not so much because of the 3 kilometers of distance, but because of the elevation of the geography above 5 thousand meters above sea level. An average tourist can complete the route in 1 hour 30 minutes, a little more or less.
At Vinicunca, visitors will appreciate the variety of colors that dye the mountain as a result of the proliferation of minerals on the site (formed thousands of years ago and visible after an episode of thawing). The tour guide will provide all the appropriate information and help you get the best photos of the place, without many visitors at that time (tourists flock there from 10 and 11 in the morning). Of course, tourists will be able to enjoy a beautiful sunrise at one of the highest tourist attractions in Cusco (at 5,200 meters above sea level).
After enjoying the Rainbow Mountain almost alone, the visitor begins the return trip on foot or on horseback, depending on what the visitor wants. The return route is the same. Optionally, tourists can take a short route that leads to the Red Valley of Pitumarca. There they can take photos of themselves in a landscape similar to Mars.
Back at the Phulawasipata camp, the visitor will make the 1 hour and 30 minute return trip to the town of Cusipata. There, we will sit down again at the La Montana restaurant to enjoy a buffet lunch that includes: rice, pasta, hot soups, stews, the famous lomo saltado, trout ceviche, beef, fish, alpaca, eggs, tequeños, avocado, fruits, hot drinks and more.
After enjoying a delicious lunch, we will board the tourist transport again to return, always accompanied by a professional tour guide, to the city of Cusco. The tour concludes in a central square or at the door of the tourist’s hotel at approximately 3:30 p.m.
